Allison Huff Fundraiser
Whew! This is what I've been working on for the past few days . . .
The Allison Huff "Heart of a Warrior" fundraiser. Allison is the 11-year-old daughter, grand daughter, and neice of some very close childhood friends. (Actually, I don't really even know Allison - I think I may have met her once a couple of summers ago.) Anyway, her aunt Theresa, contacted our family about Allison's medical condition that has kept her in the hospital since February 3 awaiting a heart transplant. Luckily, Allison received a new heart shortly after Easter and is recovering!

Theresa organized a family fundraiser in Quincy, IL that was held on April 18, 2009 and was looking for support. Since I make jewelry, I offered to create a piece to sell as part of her fundraiser. You can find them for sale in my Etsy Shop. For every necklace that is sold, 1/2 of the sales price will go directly to the Huff family. I've been overwhelmed with repsonses!
The following photos shows what I've been doing to get these necklaces made and shipped to all those who are supporting Allison.....
1. I have to have a hot cup of tea - Earl Grey (Stash), no sweetener, 1/2 & 1/2.
2. I start with some 16 gauge sterling silver wire....cut into pieces for 2 sides of the heart. . .
3. Next, I curl the ends and shape the heart - notice the variation?
4. Filing comes next - I have to file the ends so the metal can be soldered.
5. Soldering - flux, solder, torch all work wonders!
6. Quench in water, then soak in my homemade pickle solution (vinegar & salt).
7. Wipe clean, then shape the tail, hammer, and tumble for a high polish.
Now I am just waiting on the arrival of chains so I can get these babies shipped out to all those wonderful people who have purchased these necklaces. Again, if you would like to purchase one of these necklaces, which are available in large ($27) & small ($25) sizes, please visit my Etsy Shop at http://www.accentyourself.etsy.com/ Domestic shipping is included in the price. Thank you so much!
